The Stern Ranch is a small "hands on" family business. Never breeding more than six to ten mares a year, they are able to give each foal individual and special care.
Located on the beautiful, coast of Southern California, approximately one block inland from the Pacific Ocean and about 50 minutes from Los Alamitos. The horse pastures are gently rolling slopes, which help develop strong young bones, coupled with the beautiful clean air and temperate climate that doesn't stress their young constitutions. The horses all have large oversize paddocks and are turned out daily into big pastures to exercise and play. The big Barn is used also for their early "barn training".

THE STERN RANCH has a goal. We love our work with these "class animals" and take pride in them. We try to raise and breed not only fast race horses, but smart, intelligent, beautiful and kind animals. We think it takes all the above to reach total success. That is our goal, to breed not many but"The Elite in Quarter Race Horses".
- PATRICIA
STERN runs the day to day operation, overseas training, conditioning, feeding and the one thousand and one details it takes to run a modern Horse Breeding Business. Patricia has been very successful in her raising of big, healthy race horses, with strong bones, disease free and with none of the usual problems associated with the early growth and training of big, yearling race horses. She attributes a great deal to her innovative feeding, training and conditioning programs and individual care.
Patricia is out there every single day working with her horses, supervising their feeding, and closely monitoring their training and conditioning. If problems should arise, she detects and cures them prior to their being serious.
- ALBERT
STERN selects and determines the genetics & breeding and is a master horse trainer, having written numerous articles and books on the subject, and is the inventor of the Donal Horse Perfector. Besides his own genetic studies he learned a great deal while being the partner and good friend of Quarter Horse Hall Of Famer Ivan Ashment for over 10 years. His motto has been "Breed the Best & Forget the Rest".
That is why the mares and their offspring carry the immediate blood of FIRST DOWN DASH, BEDUINO, EASY JET, CHICKS BEDUINO and THE SIGNATURE. He is gifted in predicting the future of young stallions and when FIRST DOWN DASH entered the stud, Stern Ranch bred every mare they owned to him, and were original multiple share holder in the FIRST DOWN DASH SYNDICATE. In this regard Stern Ranches Ltd owns shares in the SEPARATIST, WALK THRU FIRE, SNOWBOUND SYNDICATE & FIRST DOWN DASH.
- SHAWN
STERN is in charge of the hands on and day to day training and exercise program for the weanlings and yearlings. He also is in charge and runs the ranch when his mom Patricia is not available.
Stern Ranches Ltd. attributes a lot of the success of their race horses when they go into race training and later at the track to the early and daily training Shawn puts into each of their young horses. The weanlings and yearlings are imprinted and trained just enough (they still enjoy the "freedom and play" of being young horses) from their first day at the ranch, to make them excellent race prospects. Almost universally trainers have complimented the Stern Ranch on their calm, well mannered horses and stud colts. Shawn handles, to some extent, each and every young horse on the ranch daily.
- SHEREEN STERN
daughter of Patricia and Albert also works at the ranch when not attending college. Shereen is an expert rider and trainer of show horses and has competed successfully on the national level in hunting and jumping. Her duties at the Stern Ranch are administrative and she also rides and conditions the horses that are back at the ranch for "lay-off" time. She has earned a remarkable reputation among owners for her ability to take horses from the race track and train them for the Show and Pleasure market.
- BENJAMIN SIGUENZA
has been the ranch manager and in charge of labor, for the past several years and has been taught well the methods of the Stern Ranch. No corporal punishment of any kind is ever permitted or tolerated at any time in the care or training of the Stern Ranch horses. Benjamin is a master in the "battle of wits" with these hot young animals. He gets his way with love, kindness, discipline and outsmarting them.
Benjamin and his help keep the ranch in meticulous repair and condition to avoid the hazards of horses getting hurt, sick, or getting a disease. He has an ever watchful eye on all the horses constantly.
